This blue-cloth hardcover book has an aged paper spine label that bears the title of the book. The label has had some losses to the top edge but the entire title remains intact. The binding is solid in the front, and although solid still in the back, there is a split in the paper at the junction of the back cover and the last page. Inside the front cover is pasted the book plate of a former owner that reads "Ex Libris Crandon." Pasted in to the first white page is two-page "Circular of Information" that shows a ca. 1921 photograph of the museum building and lists the exhibit halls, the officers, etc.,--in excellent condition. A small pasted bookseller label is just below this and reads "Chas. E. Lauriat Co., Importers and Booksellers, 385 Wash'n St. Boston." The volume includes several chapters including an Introduction; Oil and Water-Color Paintings of Merchant Vessels; Miscellaneous Pictures of Vessels; Sketches in Water-Color and Black-And-White; Paintings and Models of Naval Vessels of the United States; Paintings of Miscellaneous Naval Vessels; Paintings of Wharves, Harbors and Foreign Ports; Models; Nautical Instruments; Portraits; The Collection of Flags; Summary of Other Collections in the Marine Room. Five brief appendices round out the book: Ship Building and Ship Builders; Painters of the Ship Pictures; Painters of the Portraits; Boats and Models in the Ethnological Collections; References and an Index. 188 pages. Numerous black and white illustrations of objects and paintings in the collection.
